NTH was invited to attend the annual ACEC/M Excellence Awards Gala on March 9, 2024, where Karen Okonta and Samantha Grant, P.E. accepted the Engineering Merit Award for the GFL-Pontiac Materials Recycling Facility (MRF). The Engineering Merit Award recognizes projects judged to be meritorious and can be presented to projects deemed worthy of recognition.
This was a multi-year project, for which NTH provided a wide range of consulting and engineering services, including environmental, structural, site-civil, geotechnical, SUE, and construction services for the phased redevelopment of the former General Motors Plant. NTH also provided, property acquisition due-diligence, a condition survey that included assessment of existing structural, utility, and related components for a waste transfer station, the recently constructed MRF, and planned additional developments within the 38-acre property.
The state-of-the-art MRF, completed in March 2023, is now operational, and contributes to Michigan’s overall recycling and sustainability goals. Equally important, the MRF provides an infusion of new employment, revenue, and taxes in Pontiac, Michigan, a financially challenged city.
Thank you to the NTH Team for all of their hard work on this truly transformative project!
