NTH Consultants Receives Top Engineering Honor from ACEC Michigan
2026 Engineering Eminent Conceptor Award Recognizes Innovative Sewer Rehabilitation Pilot Study
NTH Consultants is proud to announce that the firm received the 2026 Engineering Eminent Conceptor Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Michigan (ACEC/Michigan) for its work on the Large-Diameter Sewer Rehabilitation – A Liner Pilot Study for the Oakland Macomb Interceptor Drain Drainage District (OMIDDD). The award, presented at the ACEC/Michigan Engineering & Surveying Excellence Awards Gala at The Fillmore Detroit, recognizes engineering projects that demonstrate exceptional innovation, complexity, and value to the public.
The North Interceptor–East Arm is a critical regional wastewater asset serving more than 800,000 residents across Southeast Michigan. Over time, severe corrosive conditions had significantly deteriorated sections of the 17.5-foot diameter interceptor, creating an urgent need for rehabilitation while maintaining reliable service for the communities that depend on the system. To help identify the most effective long-term rehabilitation strategy, NTH designed and implemented a pilot program that installed and evaluated three large-diameter liner systems side-by-side within the interceptor. This innovative approach allowed engineers to collect real-world performance data under active sewer conditions—providing critical insight into durability, constructability, and long-term effectiveness. The study offers valuable information for utilities facing similar corrosion and aging infrastructure challenges and is expected to help inform large-diameter sewer rehabilitation projects both regionally and nationally.
“This project represents exactly the kind of complex infrastructure challenge our team is built to solve,” said Jeff Jaros, CEO/President of NTH Consultants LTD. “By combining technical expertise with a data-driven approach, we were able to help our client identify the most resilient long-term rehabilitation strategy for this critical regional asset.”
As an Eminent Conceptor Award recipient, the project is now eligible to compete in the national ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards competition in Washington, D.C.
A round of applause for all the team members involved with this project!
