Project Overview

Tenneco planned for replacement of its UST farm (installation of new; removal of old). Tenneco selected NTH based upon its long-standing relationship of more than 25 years of support on Environmental projects. The scope of support included assistance with the new UST registrations and documentation, as well as the environmental obligations associated with removal. The tanks required removal due to replacement; however, also to allow for installation of a proposed construction project for the facility’s growth.

Project Scope

NTH provided support services for registration of the new USTs; for the former USTs, once removed from service, NTH supported Tenneco with the UST Removal Site Assessment. NTH field staff observed the tank removal (conducted by Tenneco’s contractor) and collected soil/groundwater samples for analysis to conduct the UST Removal Site Assessment.

The UST Removal Site Assessment identified certain contaminants within the surrounding soil/groundwater; therefore, NTH assisted Tenneco in the necessary filings and preparation for the Initial Site Assessment (ISA). For the ISA, NTH staff prepared a sampling & boring plan to collect samples from the former UST site. Prior to conducting borings/field study, NTH staff conducted utility locating services to identify underground utility lines and update the sampling plan accordingly. With a drilling subcontractor, NTH conducted the planned borings to obtain soil and groundwater samples for expedited analysis. Based on the results, NTH prepared a report to request cancellation of the tank release for approval by LARA (at this time, the outcome is pending).

Project Challenge:

The client was planning a construction project that would take place over the former UST site. NTH expedited the site assessments/soil sampling to obtain information as soon as practical so the site work could proceed. NTH also supported Geotechnical services following the removal project to assist in foundation design.

NTH Solutions:

NTH’s field staff provided a comprehensive service to support the UST removal environmental requirements and because we were there for tank removal we could better support the foundation design requirements for proposed project.

Client Benefit:

NTH conducted sampling analyses to assist Tenneco in meeting its regulatory obligations; however, the added support was professional analysis to request cancellation of the UST release.
