Castle Solar Park Launches as Flagship of the Detroit Solar Neighborhood Program
Detroit is taking a bold step toward a cleaner energy future with the launch of Castle Solar Park — the inaugural project in the Detroit Solar Neighborhood program. Located just west of City Airport, this 42-acre site will deliver 10 megawatts of solar energy, marking a significant milestone in the city’s renewable energy journey.
NTH is proud to support the development with a full suite of services, including geotechnical, civil, structural, environmental, SUE, and permitting expertise. Hired by Ideal Contracting, NTH is part of a collaborative team that includes Motor City Electric — the EPC contractor selected by DTE Energy to design and build the site.
Fieldwork in Action: SUE and Soil Borings
Recently, NTH spent two days on site performing Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Quality Level B services. This critical work cleared the way for soil borings at precise locations, enabling NTH’s drilling subcontractor, DLZ, to begin operations. Twelve additional borings—each 20 feet deep—are now underway to inform the engineering design of the driven pile foundations.
A Model for Future Solar Development
Castle Solar Park isn’t just a standalone project — it’s a blueprint for how thoughtful engineering, collaborative partnerships, and adaptive design can drive sustainable infrastructure forward. As Detroit continues to expand its solar footprint, this project sets the tone for what’s possible when innovation meets intention.
