NTH’s Value Added
Our experienced professionals perform environmental site assessments and baseline environmental assessments to determine environmental conditions of concern and provide recommendations to address problems and minimize risk.
Environmental Site Assessments
Acquisition, ownership, or management of a property often necessitates thorough investigation to determine the presence of any environmental contamination or conditions of concern. NTH Consultants specializes in conducting thorough environmental site assessments (ESAs) to provide information to make risk-based decisions and mitigate potential exposure and liability. The scope and depth are personalized for our clients. We perform over 100 Phase I and II ESAs each year, as well as remedial investigations, environmental remediations, and site closures.
Phase I ESAs
The NTH Environmental Site Assessment team performs a non-intrusive Phase I
investigation to review environmental conditions at the site, buildings and surrounding properties. We review background information and government files, conduct a field reconnaissance of the site and nearby areas, interview current owners/operators, and prepare a comprehensive written report to summarize our investigation and provide information regarding recognized environmental conditions (RECs) at the property.
The information we provide at the conclusion of a Phase I ESA determines the necessity for and assists in our client’s decision to proceed with a Phase II ESA.
Phase II ESAs
NTH begins a Phase II ESA with the design of a work scope to investigate areas of concern identified during the Phase I ESA. We document our proposed sampling strategy, as well as quality assurance and site-specific Health and Safety plans.
Phase II involves intrusive fieldwork to confirm the existence and severity of contamination, including the evaluation of contaminant movement from nearby sources. We conclude our Phase II investigation by preparing a report that describes the work performed and provides recommendations for further study or preparation of a remedial action plan, including cost estimates.
Baseline Environmental Assessments (BEAs)
NTH has been at the forefront in performing BEAs. Our clients have included municipalities; developers; industrial, commercial, and chemical firms; and attorneys. This critical service offers our clients a tool to limit or exempt liability for existing contamination at a facility they may acquire or operate in the future.
Environmental Investigations and Remediation
NTH’s experience with soil and groundwater conditions in Southeast Michigan enables us to develop remediation strategies that adequately mitigate risks identified during the ESA process while controlling project costs.
