For this project, Livernois Avenue, between Margareta and 8-Mile, was transformed into a welcoming streetscape with a dedicated left-turn lane, wider sidewalks, on-street parking, raised bike lanes and more. NTH provided the site-civil construction plans for a complete makeover, meeting the community’s vision. In coordination with SMM, NTH provided the plans for the removal of the median and existing travel configuration; completely re-designing the entire corridor to the right-of-way limits. NTH’s team of civil engineering professionals was able to accomplish the various aspects of this major design under a demanding project delivery schedule and site constraints to ensure access to existing business.
In addition to the Merit Award, NTH’s Chairman Emeritus, Keith M. Swaffar, P.E., was presented with the Vernon B. Spalding Leadership Award to honor his outstanding leadership roles in ACEC and several community organizations, as well as his long-time dedication to the A/E profession. Mr. Swaffar has 40 years of experience on a wide range of infrastructure and environmental projects, including geotechnical investigations and the development of design recommendations for tunnels, shafts, braced excavations, and other underground facilities as well as dams, major office buildings, industrial and marine facilities. His work can be seen all over the Midwest, but most predominantly in the Detroit area where he has lent his expertise to numerous projects, including the East and West Riverfront redevelopments, Little Caesar’s Arena, the Dequindre Cut trail, the Detroit / Wayne County Port Authority Dock, and most recently, the current development of the Gordie Howe International Bridge. |
