Shoreline Services:
NTH’S VALUE ADDED Our experience with analysis of numerous shoreline systems and investigating and repairing failed shorelines and shoreline structures affords NTH a unique perspective that allows us to quickly ascertain the critical project elements and pursue appropriate solutions. |
SHORELINE SERVICESNTH has provided geotechnical, structural, and forensic engineering services for the stabilization of shorelines and construction or rehabilitation of shoreline structures for decades. Services include from geotechnical investigations and recommendations for support of new structures; evaluation of existing structures for remaining service life and/or beneficial re-use; design of new docks and mooring facilities; stabilization of existing natural shorelines through the use of conventional hardscape techniques or soft shoreline methods; design of shoreline improvements to facilitate shipping, cargo handling, or other commercial use; design of shoreline improvements to facilitate civic / recreational use; and emergency slope or structure stabilization in the event of a failure.
NTH has served both public and private clients in providing critical engineering services on the following projects: Detroit / Wayne County Public Dock and Terminal: NTH was hired to review historical site, geotechnical, and land use data; conduct a geotechnical investigation for offshore wharf and new terminal building; evaluate and design repairs to the existing wharf; design a new offshore wharf; and provide construction contract administration services. Detroit Marine Terminal: Following the failure of the bank of the Rouge River adjacent to a bulk material storage facility, NTH provided an emergency dredging plan to re-open the Rouge River to navigation and designed a new retaining wall to restore the shoreline to its original position and allow continued use as a bulk storage facility. Detroit East Riverwalk: NTH performed historical research on previous land use, investigated existing shoreline structures, and performed multiple geotechnical investigations along the river front. NTH worked cooperatively with multiple stakeholders to advise the project team of the impacts of existing conditions on the proposed development at each site. St. Aubin Marina: NTH determined the cause of shoreline structure failures at two locations within the former St. Aubin Marina and developed replacement designs to facilitate the continued use of the marina within the new Tricentennial State Park in Detroit, Michigan. USACE Detroit District: NTH served as a geotechnical consultant to the USACE Detroit District and provided shoreline design engineering support services. |
