Electric Substation Asset Management & Consulting

In today’s energy market, it is vitally important to develop and implement efficient strategies to derive as much value as possible from existing assets. Substations are critical assets in providing uninterrupted service to a utility’s customers. An understanding of asset conditions is the foundation for developing a strategic plan to address deterioration and physical deficiencies that ultimately help mitigate these risks.

NTH offers a wide range of services to companies that own and operate transmission and distribution substations and the development of preventative maintenance and sustainability strategies. These strategies are based on a comprehensive understanding of the substations’ condition with respect deferred maintenance, defects, deficiencies and renewal requirements. Substation Yard and Perimeter

• Perimeter fencing, gates and locks to assess condition and for security breaches, encroachments, or concerns
• Site drainage and property access; look for evidence of soil erosion
• Drains, culverts, fence, gates and oil sumps for proper operation
• Evidence of oil leaks, if present obtain samples for analysis 
• Review site conditions for unwanted vegetation

Control House and other Buildings

• Document any evidence of security breaches
• Building envelope conditions – siding, mortar, brick/block, foundations, window systems, doors, chimneys, etc.

• Interior conditions, wall finishes, flooring, paint, ceiling, exposed structural framing in attic / crawl space or basement, lighting, etc.

• Verify electronic communications and emergency lighting are operational

Documentation
NTH will prepare a report summarizing our observations, conclusions and recommendations for repair or replacement requirements. We use photographs to document our observations. NTH also offers a strategic asset management solution to document conditions, identify renewal needs, estimate maintenance and renewal budgets, and track key performance indicators such as Facility Condition Index (FCI) of your assets.
