Ferrous Processing & Trading Co.
Storm Water Master Planning & Engineering Services
Project Overview
NTH was retained by Ferrous Processing & Trading Co. (FPT), a Division of Soave Enterprises to provide on-going master planning services and professional engineering support for storm water quality and quantity improvements at multiple scrap metal/ auto salvage facilities in the Midwest United States.

Project Scope
NTH provided assistance as a trusted advisor to FPT to cover a broad range of strategic, technical, and construction services at FPT Cleveland, LLC and FPT Pontiac, LLC.  Services that NTH has provided include:
  • MDEQ NPDES permitting analysis to identify framework for overall storm water management solutions considering existing infrastructure, facility operations, cost, risk and regulatory requirements.
  • Process flow evaluation for environmental control, materials management, and best management housekeeping practices.
  • Site-civil layout and design, including green infrastructure evaluation and implementation and traditional grading design, construction bid document preparation, technical specifications, cost estimating, and local agency permitting.
  • Storm-water management design including hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, storm and sanitary sewer system upgrades, detention pond sizing, oil-water separator design, and lift-station sizing.
  • Geotechnical drilling, foundation engineering to support construction of new maintenance and scrap-vehicle processing buildings
  • Construction engineering management, inspection, testing, and as-built documentation
  • Combined sewer overflow (CSO) sewer repair design
  • Water well abandonment, coordination, and supervision
  • Subsurface utility locating and condition assessment
  • Line-of-Sight survey
  • Computer aided design and drafting (CADD)

One of NTH’s major roles is to provide trusted advice in stormwater management.  For FPT Cleveland, NTH designed three storm water detention ponds with associated sewerage and oil/water separators to treat stormwater runoff from the site.  Additionally NTH provided civil engineering services for a major repair of the combined sewer overflow that was utilized as part of the storm water management system. For FPT Pontiac, NTH modified the existing storm water detention ponds, consolidating existing ponds for additional process space, while lining the remaining ponds to enhance storm water quality discharging to local storm water systems.

In addition to acting as a consultant to FPT, NTH’s trusted advisor role includes activities to help increase FPT’s operational efficiency and profitability.
