NTH has provided geotechnical, structural, and forensic engineering services for the stabilization of shorelines and construction or rehabilitation of shoreline structures for decades. Our experience with inspecting and designing a wide variety of shoreline restoration systems and rehabilitating maritime, riverine, and riparian structures, affords NTH a unique perspective that allows us to quickly ascertain the critical project elements and pursue value-added solutions. NTH has served both public and private clients in providing critical engineering services on several award-winning shoreline and waterway projects that have helped transform our region’s industrial legacy into accessible, sustainable interaction between the public and their water. NTH has conducted many of these shoreline and seawall inspections in the Detroit area and last week NTH conducted inspection of another seawall and shoreline for a property bordering the Rouge River. The inspection included documentation of the current shoreline condition, both above and below the water level, and will include the preparation of an engineering report that will be suitable for submission to the City of Detroit Building and Safety Engineering Department. This will meet the requirements of Ordinance No. 8-15-34 of the City of Detroit Code. The NTH crew doing the inspection consisted of George Hannakachl, David Nymberg and Jeff Stamper. The crew used GPS to locate borders of the site and the existing features related to the property. They also used our remotely operated submersible vehicle (N.E.S.S - NTH Small Submarine) to determine the underwater condition of the existing shoreline. |

It's interesting that seawalls can require maintenance. I can see how preventing issues would be important. A broken seawall could result in a lot of damage, after all.
