Re-Engineering the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge Boat Dock & Fishing Pier ACEC MI: Award of Merit for Engineering The Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge was created to protect the Detroit River shoreline. A dock/fishing pier were part of the design but bids for construction were above budget. NTH re-engineered to eliminate underwater construction efforts, creating a design that was easier to build, able meet schedule restrictions, and saved $1 million. |
The Mission to Save Humbug Marsh ACEC MI: Award of Merit for Engineering NTH provided engineering services to help preserve the 400 acres of trees, marsh, water, and animal life. These services included design and construction of wheelchair accessible nature trails made from recycled materials, construction of an educational lookout shelter, and construction of a pedestrian bridge. NTH helped to preserve the sensitive marsh and woodlands in order to provide future generations the opportunity to experience the river’s natural habitat. |
Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority Public Dock & Terminal ACEC MI: Engineering Honorable Conceptor Award The DWCPA Public Dock and Terminal is Detroit’s front door to the international maritime community. NTH’s adaptive re-use of this underutilized portion of the shoreline ties together the Detroit Riverwalk through the redevelopment of Detroit’s waterfront through use of an onshore wharf, an offshore wharf, and many other shoreline restoration features. |
