Since 1985, DTE Energy has partnered with The Heat and Warmth Fund (THAW) to raise funds to provide energy assistance to low-income families, seniors, and individuals in the Michigan area. Despite a slowly improving economy, thousands of individuals and families still struggle to pay their energy bills. In that time THAW has distributed more than $145 million dollars in assistance to over 200,000 Michigan households with approximately 8,000 of those families in the Detroit area. More than 30,000 children lived in homes that received THAW assistance in 2013.
In an effort to provide assistance to these vulnerable families, THAW announced the 3rd annual Waffles for Warmth Challenge, a DTE Energy fundraising competition for employees from January 26th through February 10 in conjunction with THAW's Winter Survival Radio-thon.
The Radio-thon will be taking place February 12 on WWJ News Radio 950. WWJ Newsradio 950 will broadcast LIVE on from 5 a.m. – 7 p.m., to help raise much-needed funds for THAW. Listen in to bid on great gifts, including our Michigan "mitten" basket filled with Michigan made products, NTH swag and two tickets to an upcoming Red Wings game! (Pictured below.)
Last year THAW successfully raised $127,000 collectively beating their goal of $120,000 which DTE triple matched. This year's collective funding goal is $150,000. Funds raised go directly to THAW to distribute to those families and individuals in need. THAW distributed $25 million and providing energy assistance to 20,000 Michigan homes in 2015.
